Nazufi Japanese Friends Beta Update | New Japanese Grammar Lessons|日本語文法レッスンを追加
Updated: Sep 25
Nazufi Japanese Friends Beta has been updated with a new Grammar Lessons mode alongside the original Context Quiz.
The update adds 12 grammar lessons across Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels, helping learners understand how Japanese sentences are built and why they often work differently from English.
Rather than treating grammar as a list of rules to memorise, the lessons use explanations, practical examples and short checks to connect sentence structure with real communication.

What’s new in Friends Beta
Grammar Lessons mode has been added alongside the original Context Quiz.
Three learning levels: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced.
Twelve focused grammar lessons with Japanese examples and clear English comparisons.
Short knowledge checks provide immediate feedback after each topic.
Beginner lessons include romaji support to make the first steps easier for learners who are not yet comfortable reading Japanese.
The aim is to help learners see the structure behind the language while keeping the original Friends Beta focus on context, relationships and natural Japanese.
Japanese vs English grammar: how sentence structure is different
English usually depends on a subject–verb–object order. Japanese often places the verb at the end and uses particles such as は, が, を and に to show how words relate to one another.
For example, “I eat sushi” follows Subject → Verb → Object in English, while 私は寿司を食べます follows Subject → Object → Verb in Japanese.
Japanese can also omit the subject when it is already clear from the conversation. These structural differences are introduced step by step so learners do not have to force Japanese into an English sentence pattern.
Japanese grammar for Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced learners
Beginner introduces core sentence order, particles, omitted subjects, polite です/ます forms and the difference between ある and いる.
Intermediate moves into patterns that do not always map neatly onto English, including 〜ている, 〜たら/〜なら, あげる/くれる/もらう and explanatory 〜んです.
Advanced explores nuance and perspective through は/が, 〜させていただく, quotation forms such as 〜という/〜って and indirect communication such as ちょっと….
Learn through examples, not rules alone

Each topic is built around explanation and examples rather than rule memorisation alone. Learners can compare how an idea is expressed in English with the structure used in Japanese, then check their understanding with a short question.
Grammar and context are deliberately kept together. A sentence can be grammatically correct but still sound too formal, too direct or unnatural in a particular situation. Friends Beta is being developed to help learners notice both sides of the language.

文法を単独で暗記するのではなく、Friends Betaがこれまで大切にしてきた「場面・人間関係・自然な言い方」と結びつけながら理解できる構成を目指しています。
日本語と英語の文法はどう違う?
英語では一般的にSubject → Verb → Objectの語順が使われます。一方、日本語では動詞が文の最後に置かれることが多く、は・が・を・になどの助詞が単語同士の関係を示します。
例えば “I eat sushi.”
Grammar Lessonsでは、文法項目の名前を覚えることだけを目的にしていません。英語ではどのように表現するのか、日本語ではどのような語順や形になるのかを例文から比較します。
文法的には正しくても、場面によっては丁寧すぎたり、直接的すぎたりすることがあります。そのため、文法と文脈の両方を理解し、実際のコミュニケーションにつながる日本語学習を目指しています。
